volcano

as you probably know,
every few weeks i like to check out tjmaxx
to pick up a few extra pieces for my wardrobe.
lately,
i've been desperately wanting
cute dresses to throw on during the summer
and a pair of denim shorts!
voila...

yes, thats a zipper down the front. and pockets!

cute cut-outs in the back (i never take the price tag off til i wear it for real)

i can see myself wearing this out for some drinks on the IOP

i now own three pairs of shorts! must. get. more.

p.s. the temperature outside in charleston right now
feels like the equivalent of jumping into a volcano.
just walking outside makes me sweat glisten!

over the fence

people generally speak of "wearing many hats"
(teacher, student, friend, parent...you get the idea)
but i seem to constantly be showcasing
the many sides of my personality through shoes.

sparkly black pointy-toed flats
black converse all-star chuck taylors
tall tan wedges with gold studs
battered brown reef sandals
ruffly black heels

well, recently i found this athletic pair in my closet
that my father bought me years ago.
i never wore them because well,
to be quite honest i thought they were ugly.
but time has passed and upon trying them on again
i realized they're really comfortable and supportive
and more attractive then i remembered.
plus, they seem to have a bit of a platform on the bottom
giving me a little height lift. always a bonus.

these babies and i have started walking the bridge
(approx. 3 miles with quite an incline)
every sunday evening with my long-time friend michelle.
and most recently, they played catch
with my little sister who broke out our
softball gloves from the storage box in the garage.
now i'm quite fond of them.

love letters

after stressing myself out entirely too much contemplating the future of my relationship with nicholas, i decided to read nicholas sparks' Dear John (which i'd be meaning to read ever since the movie came out) as a distraction. well, when i start reading a good book, i literally cannot stop myself.

i last remember looking at the clock at about 2:00am, but refused to let myself go to sleep before finishing the story. so there. i read the whole book in one late night session and woke up with swollen eyelids the next morning. though i enjoyed the first half of the book (and made a lot of personal connections to it!)
the notebook will forever be the greatest love story of all time because unlike dear john, the characters end up together for the rest of their lives.

john and savannah belong together.
she will never be as happy with tim!
grrrrr. nicholas sparks, you disappoint me.

start time: 9:30pm
end time: before sunrise

fight night

my little sister came home from college for the july 4th weekend. after working a rather exhausting double at work, i checked my cell phone only to find text messages from her encouraging me to meet up with the family at king street grille. figuring it could be more fun than sitting at the house by myself, i went.
it was packed.
why? i had no clue. & theeeen i found out there was a big UFC fight on tv. uhhh, as someone that has no understanding whatsoever of what would possibly ever make someone want to hit and wrestle another person...let's just say "i was out of my element". there we were, surrounded by over-sized testerosterone-crazed, steroid-induced {hey, it's possible} males yelling at televisions as sweaty men tangled themselves up in awkward positions, bleeding from their eye sockets. how is that a sport?! gross.
but it's okay. i documented the experience in photos.

hahaha! i love this photo! he doesnt actually follow this crap,
but it was something to do on a Friday night in Charleston.

as a side note, a cardboard cut-out of the dos equiis man
(you've probably seen the most interesting man in the world commericals)
was stolen from the front of the restaurant i work at.
guess where i found him?
being pumped into the air by guys watching
the fight at king street grille.
go fiiigure. at least the mystery has been solved.

proteinalicious

just wanted to share with you my very favorite
breakfast of 2010. while i used to rely on
cereal every morning to get me through class
i've rediscovered how quickly one can make
scrambled eggs.
i like melting colby jack cheese on mine
with a sprinkle of salt and pepper
atop toasted whole grain bread
with a few slices of tomato, spinach leaves,
and a bit of {cholesterol free} mayonnaise
